There is a game/program called The Viral Video Exchange created by Dave Ganly, an Irish entrepreneur. The game was launched in May 2012, I just discovered it and found it interesting to share.
Basically, it takes the concept of the stock market. You invest in a video you predict will become viral, using virtual currency called “Voins”. As the viewership increases, the value of your stock will increase. The players in Viral Video Exchange find and submit a video that they predict will become viral, and search for videos they think are worthy to share and submit them in the game.
We almost always discover videos the moment they become viral, but what if you find a video before its virality? The vastness and information overload of the web makes it hard to be the first to find interesting content. I think that by observing what videos go viral, we can learn why and how they go viral along the way.
As mentioned in the article below, the game’s algorithm does not count celebrity-based videos but instead, seeks authentic videos.
